Buckle- up; Leah Harris is set to #Emergeproud with a bang!

Leah Harris is an incredible outspoken writer, public speaker, and advocate for “trauma-informed” approaches to health care, and creative and holistic strategies for healing from the effects of trauma and toxic stress. A suicide attempt survivor and suicide prevention advocate, Leah’s story is featured in the upcoming feature-length documentary about suicide, The S Word.

Leah #Emergesproud to say:

“I’m a mother, storyteller, and mentor who loves to support people to heal on all the levels – mind, heart, body and spirit — so they can more fully step onto their path and do their sacred work in the world.

I’m so passionate about the healing journey. I love what a non-linear spiral it is and how it’s never done. I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life devoted to learning everything I can about healing my own wounds, so I can share these elixirs with the world.

I love, love, love creative exploration and expression. Poetry has saved my life on more than one occasion. Nothing brings me more joy than to be in that creative zone of flow where the passage of time means nothing. Those moments of connection are what make life matter.

I’m obsessed with all forms of social justice. My mission is to make the world a safer and more gentle place to be human.

I’m a super sensitive, empathic, introverted type who uses all the labels and then rejects them in order to remain in a state of wonder and surprise about myself, others, and this life.

I dislike boxes of any kind, unless they are filled with organic dark chocolates.

I’m learning to lean more authentically and unapologetically into myself, and I love to encourage others to do the same.

My best friends say my superpower is listening. Folks I work with tend to agree: I hold space like nobody’s business. And that’s only because I’ve learned how to hold space for me.

I know what it’s like to feel like the world is too much, and I don’t belong here. What it’s like to want to crawl under the covers and not come out. What it’s like to hurt and to be without hope. What it’s like to sense a calling but feel so stuck, I can’t step into it.

When I was 28 and going through a serious quarter-life, Saturn-return mega crisis, an astrologer told me that my soul chose to come into a really turbulent and chaotic life experience so that I could take on the mission of healing my own trauma, become empathic as f*ck, and step into a role as a teacher and healer. At the time, I was like “who would CHOOSE this?” and “no WAY do I have anything to teach,” but now I know that she was right. I had to learn to trust myself enough to see the truth in her words….”

How much are you looking forward to hearing Leah speak? Probably not as much as me!

FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE FULL PRE-RELEASE CRAZYWISE FILM IN THE UK: 2 weeks today!

Exclusive 1st UK mainland pre- release CRAZYWISE film screening and workshop; An introduction to an empowering approach to mental distress as a transformative process.

What if a psychological crisis was seen as having the potential to be a positive transformative experience, instead of a “broken brain”?

Human-rights photographer Phil Borges witnessed how indigenous cultures around the world often identify “psychotic” symptoms as an indicator of shamanic potential.

Back in the US, Phil follows two young Americans diagnosed with “mental illness.” Adam, 27, suffers devastating side effects from medications before embracing meditation.

Ekhaya, 32, survives several suicide attempts before completing spiritual training to become a traditional South African healer.

CRAZYWISE introduces mental health professionals and psychiatric survivors who see a psychological crisis as a potential growth experience, not a disease.

It’s time to rethink how Western culture defines and treats severe mental emotional distress; BOOK HERE!  to be amongst the first in the world to see this ground- breaking documentary and discuss action points to carry forwards to help create change.

This is an informal event with refreshments provided.

The bar will also be open to aid discussion 🙂

Venue: Marchesi Room, Cinema City, St Andrews Street, Norwich, Norfolk, UK

VITAL INFORMATION: Re- programming Trauma, Free Presentation

I cannot begin to express how vital this video presentation on Neurofeedback for trauma is for anyone who has experienced, or is working with people, who have experienced trauma.

It not only explains why emotions linked to diagnoses such as PTSD, ADHD, Personality Disorder, Multiple Personality and emotional dysregulation states naturally occur, but HOW THEY CAN BE HEALED NON- INVASIVELY.

It’s with immense gratitude to Dr Bussel Van Der Kolk MD for sharing his work so generously, and to my next #Emergingproud interviewee Heather Hargraves for this link – I can’t wait to learn more from Heather about this, and to get this information out into the world where it so desperately needs to be more widely acknowledged in order to create more compassion and end stigma.

Jenny bravely sings us her ‘Self- song’ as she #Emerges Proud today

jenny-t

“All my life people just tell me their personal ‘issues’ and my inherent self simply has an outpouring of words that resonate with them, of which I have no idea where they come from.

All I have ever known is that we are all here to help each other, that I would have two lives in this lifetime; and in recent years know my vocation is teacher, writer, healing channel for LOVE.

In 2015 a first public emerging for me as definitely no singer, this ‘Song to Self’ came channelled out of nowhere through me:

Over the last two years I have experienced homelessness on more than one occasion amongst other extremes of life… would that I had seen a certain article four weeks earlier but no matter that experience was meant to happen.

The experience was that I had the most deeply profound longing to ‘go Home’, truly feeling at peace that I had done all I could to help those in my life to help themselves.

About 6/7 times over a 10/14 day period I had this longing prior to 3 May 2016 when I chose to drop body, though as I am still here, I know I am meant to be.

Whilst I am totally clear on what and why I did what I did, I now have strained relationships with loved ones who do not understand and are insistent it was an attempt at ‘suicide’, which it absolutely was not.

I am holding loving space and standing in my own truth, knowing full well that those of my loved ones who are not ready to follow their Soul Journey are likely to become estranged until they too understand.

I know everyone has their own belief systems for we are each individual and Unique, and I simply LOVE regardless of judgement.  I know my truth and do not have to prove myself to anyone, I do though feel great human sadness at the separation from my dear loved ones in what seems my ‘first life’ in this life.

Though I have had better times; all the devastatingly traumatic challenges I and my loved ones have faced week in, week out, month on month have not weakened my resolve to keep the faith, trust and BELIEVE in my Inherent Soul; in the loving kindness of others; and in the pure power of healing.

Mindful that we get to choose our own thoughts we can always change perspective, I come from a place of loving forgiveness.

LOVE always HEALS fear, no matter what experiences we may encounter.

My story is not just mine but my husbands too for he has had some amazing experiences from channelled healings together, bringing out the most amazing artworks!

Our Spirit is AWESOME! 🌹”

The pain of the Healing Journey

I have few words today, but I think this beautiful poem will resonate with most of the #Emerging Proud followers…

Living TEAL; showing up whole (even when that means with snotty tissues)

Yesterday I was all set to interview my wonderful colleague Rozalia Kovacs- Napier about ISEN’s exciting news. Rozalia has taught me so much over the last 18 months of intensively working together, and I wanted to give her the opportunity to share ‘behind the scenes at ISEN’ with the #Emergingproud community.

One of the most important things I have learned from Rozalia is what it really means to work and live the TEAL ethos. And it hasn’t been a painless process. Being a TEAL organisation is all about ‘showing up whole’ – this means not hiding behind any ‘professional’ facade and building trust with each other through allowing raw emotion; acknowledging our humanness so that we can provide an authentic ‘human’ service.

So yesterday this involved me showing up to our meeting sobbing into snotty tissues and sharing the fact that the day had mostly been lost in processing some anger (i.e. pillow- thumping and swearing) that had triggered yet more layers of feelings of abandonment, loneliness and fears around my security.

The most beautiful thing about this is that Rozalia has created a safe space to express these very ‘normal’ and ‘valid’ kind of emotions, and that is something we are aiming to do in ISEN for each other. It takes time to build trust, and practice to be in touch with such raw emotion in a healthy way, but it’s also necessary to accept that it’s actually a very natural part of life.

Does this rollercoaster of emotion ever end? NO, of course not. Not until we stop breathing. box-of-chocolates1

Life really is like a box of chocolates; sometimes you get to enjoy a smooth, comforting praline, and other times, you pop a sticky toffee unexpectedly into your mouth and it ends up pulling out a filling and costing you both financially and in pain.

Such is the beauty of living our wholeness, and the best thing about it is; living this wholeness really is the point of life; to learn to enjoy every mouthful, and grow from the lessons of the sticky toffees.

One day soon I hope to connect with Rozalia on a ‘praline’ day, and share more of her wonderful heart- centred wisdom with you all!

With love (and snotty tissues),

Katie x
